Good op-ed piece today in the NY Times about an issue that I, to be frank, knew nothing about. Apparently Vicente Fox's government in Mexico is attempting to manipulate laws in order to try to charge the mayor of Mexico City - a strong contender for the Presidency in 2006 - with what amounts to completely bogus charges.

It is worth the read if nothing else than to remind us all that even if we are successful in establishing a democracy in the first instance in Iraq, that does not mean democracy will thrive, or survive, the first few transfers of power.
