Very good op-ed by Colbert King in today's Washington Post. It points out the ultimate in hypocrisy - the general counsel for the American Society of Newspaper Editors who, while waving the freedom of speech banner in fighting for certain reporters' rights to gather information in order to report on Maryland's governor - has publicly criticized another columnist for speaking out against his group's position.

This is the same problem I have with the ACLU frankly. If they were just consistent in their advocacy I would be happy to donate to them in one of the 20 or so envelopes I get from them every month. But because they don't abide by their own principles and only fight for certain viewpoints - I will never donate to them.

How hard is it to be for free speech regardless of the viewpoint being expressed? I don't think it is that hard - but I am constantly seeing examples that try to prove me wrong. It is a shame.
